It’s Alaskan King crab season!

The Scene:

Accord seafood restaurant is located in the trendy & very popular area of the city with great antique shops, independent coffee cafes and a plethora of vintage stores including (Front & Co). It’s somewhat fitting that Accord is in this cool indie area of the city, as it is still part of the Vancouver east side slowly transforming from its past grime & dinginess. Accord is like most basic chinese restaurants with large round tables & the fish tanks at the back. When we walked into the restaurant it smelled like sewage which was almost so unbearable to walk right out. The smell wafted away as their garbage removal was taken out (our waiter had apologized as the garbage was to be taken out during the day)…

The Food:

Sewage smells aside (which I promise dissolved away quickly), the food was tasty! Prior to cooking our family had chosen which king crab we’d like and the shellfish was brought live to our table. The first dish was breaded, garlic, pan-fried king crab with diced jalepeno peppers. Our second dish of king crab was steamed with garlic - very basic and very yummy. Our complete dinner meal composed not only of a whole Alaskan king crab, but dow mui (greens), noodles, & garlic spear ribs. To complete the full chinese meal - mango bo-deen (mango pudding).

Yew Restaurant @ The Four Seasons Hotel - Vancouver

Yew Restaurant @ The Four Seasons Hotel

Neighborhood: Downtown Vancouver, BC.

Vancouver, BC is known for their fresh seafood & and delicious food overall. Yew at the Four Seasons is a popular restaurant for locals & tourist who want exceptional service & the mode/chic aesthetic.

The Scene:

Weekdays to weekends Yew is always busy. You can however get a table without a reservation during non-peak meal hours. Due to the nature of its location (in the Four Seasons) the price-point is much higher than normal catering to those who are willing to pay more for their meals & enjoy the modern design & cool restaurant. Their service & personal requests are above & beyond and this would be a great place for a special occasion - family birthday, girls night out or a special date.

The Food:

From many past experiences, their Mushroom Gnocci is always excellent! Fresh, soft, flavorful & the perfect gnocci texture. You may inquire about made-to-order vegetable gnocci or even meat. Today’s meal - brunch - eggs benedict served with FRESH dungeness crab, spinach & fingerling potatoes ($18).

The dungeness crab was an extremely tasty addition to the typical eggs florentine (benedict & spinach) however the price point was much higher than the usual breakfast restau. All in all the ambiance and aesthetic of Yew Restaurant + great service + meal = overpriced but worth it once in a while.

When I went to visit my Canadian friend in Vancouver a couple months ago, I made one request and that was to go to La Casa Gelato. My brother told me about this place and how it serves 218 ice cream flavors.

We spent about an hour in the ice cream shop trying their unique flavors such as Balsamic Vinegar, Apple Cheddar, Curry and Pear Gorgonzola Bleu Cheese. Yes, those were all ice cream flavors I just listed out. We even tried this interesting flavor called Akbar Mashty which is a saffron and raisin ice cream. I am curious to know who would actually pay money for the Akbar Mashty.

Being the indecisive person that I am, I was actually very satisfied with the flavor I chose. Apple Pie. YUM! Little tiny apple chunks and a graham cracker crust mixed into a creamy apple ice cream. My friend T got Lychee and K got Black Sesame. Both we equally as good.

Can’t wait until my next trip to Vancouver so I can try more!
