When I worked in the Peninsula, I used to eat a cheesesteak sandwich from Jersey Joe’s at least 3 times a month. That’s probably why I gained so much weight. But anyway, I love cheesesteak sandwiches. I’m no expert since I haven’t had a true cheesesteak sandwich from Philly, but I’ve heard Jersey Joe’s is mad close.
Being the fan that I am, I decided to try Theo’s CheeseSteak Shop that’s 1 block away from my building. I already knew it wasn’t going to be as good as Jersey Joe’s, but I went anyway.
The scene:
Theo’s has it’s own space in the courtyard of the Rincon Center. They have limited seating and it seems like they feature a different movie each day. They were playing Ong Bak 2 when I was there; and I swear, for the entire hour I sat there, I heard nothing but fight scenes.
On another note, the cashier was really friendly. He recommended the popular items without us having to ask.
The food:
Just as I thought. Definitely not as good as Jersey Joe’s. It was about $10 with the sandwich and curly fries.
Steak and Mushroom sandwich - I had the Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms and provolone cheese. The bread was nice and soft and the meat was tender, but I felt it didn’t have enough filling. It was light on the cheese, which I guess is for my health but not for a cheesesteak sandwich. I would’ve liked to see more meat in there. The curly fries were good though.
One of the things I miss about working in Redwood City is that lovely cheesesteak sandwich. K’s eating there next week, so stay tuned for a post w/pictures.
